March Maintenance Outcome

tl;dr: Fuck you, Alcatroz.

Cleaning the server case was going pretty well at the start. I had used some isopropyl alcohol with some tissues to clean away most of the dust stuck on the fan blades and did a wipedown of the internal parts, but then something did bug me. While I was cleaning the server case I noticed that the front case fan wasn’t exactly in the optimal place. I figured while I’m at it might as well move it into a better position by lowering it a bit, but that turned out to be more of an effort than it should’ve been.

You see, this case is really badly designed in which the lower part of the front mounting holes where the fan is supposed to be screwed in is obstructed by the 3.5″ drive bay which is riveted in. So, in order to screw in the fan I have to unmount the 3.5″ drives. However, in order to unmount those I also have to unmount the smaller 2.5″ drives which are mounted vertically on the far side of the case which are obstructing the mounting screws of the 3.5″ drives on the far side. So basically, I had to pretty much unmount every single drive except the m.2 boot drive just to move a goddamn fan. For your reference, the case is an Alcatroz Futura Black N2000.

And with that being said, holy shit Alcatroz, what were you lot smoking when you came up with this dogshit case design?

Apart from that, everything else went according to plan. Packages have been updated, the Minecraft jar is now the latest 1.19.3 build (1.19.4 will come when the PaperMC folks release a stable build), and the plugins have all been updated too. The server should be up again at the time of writing.

Cheers.
